I will confess, that I am one of those people who stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that Christmas is on its way until 1 December. Although for work purposes and content strategy I have to address the run up to it months in advance!
However, one of the things I really enjoy, apart from the general hustle and bustle, Christmas Markets and parties as well as the opportunity to catch up with family and friends is bizarrely enough the John Lewis advert.
It may not seem an automatic jump to connect the spirit of Christmas with the retail giant that is John Lewis; however, their marketing team consistently looks beyond the individual retail items and address the feelings and emotions of the consumer through their emotional marketing.
Their branding, simple and understated, has consistently travelled along with their advertising campaign, making their adverts highly identifiably and an eagerly anticipated annual event. The success of this has again been highlighted this morning, by a video, that is in fact the A-Level coursework of a student called Nick Jablonka animated in the style of a John Lewis advert.
